UTS- A best way to book unreserved ticket in Indian Railways!

The Indian Railways is one of the largest railway networks in the world, with millions of people commuting on local trains every day. To make the ticketing process more convenient and efficient, the Indian Railways has introduced a mobile ticketing system called UTS (Unreserved Ticketing System).

What is UTS in Indian Railways?

UTS is a mobile ticketing system that allows passengers to book and purchase tickets for local trains through their smartphones. It is an initiative of the Indian Railways to make ticketing more convenient and to reduce the time and effort required for ticket booking.

UTS is primarily designed for unreserved train services, such as suburban and short-distance trains. With UTS, passengers can book tickets in advance or at the station, and they can also renew season tickets or book platform tickets.

How Does UTS Work?

To use UTS, passengers need to download the UTS app on their smartphones. The app is available for both Android and iOS devices and can be downloaded from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

Once the app is installed, passengers need to register and create a UTS account. After creating an account, they can use the app to search for train services and book tickets. Payment can be made through a variety of options, such as R-Wallet,debit card,credit card,UPI.

There are two modes for booking Tickets : 

Paperless Ticket:

In this mode the passenger can book Journey Ticket, Season Ticket and Platform Ticket through mobile app.The ticket in electronic format will be stored in the mobile itself. The passenger will use ‘Show Ticket’ option(this is available both in Online and Offline mode ie. without internet connectivity) in the application to produce his travelling authority to the Ticket Checking Staff. There is no need to take any printout.

o   Passenger’s smartphone should be GPS enabled.

o   Paperless tickets are not allowed for cancellation.

o   The journey should commence within one hour after booking of paperless ticket.

o   Season Ticket can be issued/renewed from mobile application and it will be valid from the next day. No need of GPS for issue/renewal of Season Ticket.

o   Platform Ticket can also be booked.

o   In case passenger is not able to show the ticket on mobile then he will be treated as Without Ticket and dealt accordingly. 

Paper Ticket:

o   In this mode the passenger can book ticket through the mobile application but has to go to the journey originating (source) station to take ticket print out from any of the ATVM/Co-TVM, by entering his/her registered mobile number and booking ID. 

o   The journey is valid only with pri8nted ticket.

o   Cancellation of Paper Ticket is allowed at the counter, either after printing the ticket or through the application before printing the ticket. However, in both the cases, cancellation fee is applicable.

o   The journey should commence within one hour after printing paper ticket from ATVM/Co-TVM

When a passenger books a paperless ticket through UTS, they receive a digital ticket on their smartphone. The ticket contains all the necessary details, such as the train service, the journey date and time,the fare,UTS number and QR Code of the ticket. The passenger must show the digital ticket to the ticket checker while they ask during checking.

How to recharge RWallet?

Here’s how to add money to UTS R-Wallet

Step 1: Open the UTS app.

Step 2: Log in to your account.

Step 3: Click on R-Wallet from the menu section.

Step 4: The next window will show your current balance. You may choose to recharge your wallet.

Step 5: Proceed to make payment. You can also choose to pay via UPI apps such as Paytm and Google Pay.

After successful recharge, the money will be added to your account and the balance will be reflected in your R-Wallet current balance section. You will get 3%bonus when you recharge R-Wallet i.e., if you recharge ₹1500 to R-Wallet then you will ₹15 as bonus and ₹515 will reflect in the balance.

You can now choose to pay via R-Wallet while booking your tickets.

 My review on UTS App:

UTS app is one of the best and latest service provided by Indian Railways. But, some changes should be made.

1. If a passenger books UR ticket from one source to destination and he/she wants to do return journey or further wants to continue from that destination then option should be provided such that passengers can book UR ticket from that destination to another destination(currently passengers cannot book UR ticket in UTS app while travelling in train or while they are in train). 

2.GPS accuracy is yet to be improved. 

3.Ticket details should be sent to passengers through SMS or email id so that if passenger is unable to open app when ticket checker comes for checking he can show ticket details in alternative ways. These are some points which I noted while using this app.
